A Final Word from CTV’s Lloyd Robertson

“That’s the kind of day it’s been” said retiring CTV anchorman Lloyd Robertson yesterday, ending his four-decade-plus career as the longest national news anchor in North America. At the end of the half-hour newscast Robertson talked of his time as anchor calling it “a rare privilege to have a front row seat to history”. He reminisced about the stories he’s covered: the natural disasters, politics, Olympics and royal weddings. Pretaped tributes from political leaders–Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae  and Interim NDP Leader Nycole Turmel–wished him well. CTV played “Thanks for the Memories” at the end of the newscast, bringing to an end Robertson’s nightly television presence, and an era in Canadian broadcasting.
