Bruce Cockburn: Pacing the Cage

Having just won his 12th Juno Award for Best Roots and Traditional Album Small Source of Comfort, Bruce Cockburn is still at the top of his game after four decades of making music.

In 2008 he set out on a tour with the intent of making a live solo album, and from that tour Slice o’ Life was born. As he toured, cameras followed him as he performed to sold out crowds at concerts across North America, and ended up with a poingnant documentary that sheds new light on one of Canada’s most respected musicians.

The documentary also contains candid interviews with Cockburn at his home, discussing his thoughts on just about everything, from touring to religion, activism, songwriting, the music industry and being a parent.

Having received the Order of Canada, the first ever Humanitarian Juno Award, and being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame after releasing some 31 albums over 40 years, some may think he has achieved everything a musician could ever want — but the film shows his passion for making music will keep him working at it for many years to come.

Pacing the Cage features never before seen live performances of songs from his four decade long catalog, alongside interviews with his manager Bernie Finkelstein, author William Young, Colin Linden, Michael Ondaatje, Bono, Sarah Harmer, Sylvia Tyson, Jackson Browne and more.
