‘Star Wars’ Actress Carrie Fisher Dies At 60

The Star Wars actress suffered a serious heart attack onboard her flight home from London.

Carrie Fisher passed away December 27 in Los Angeles, a few days after suffering massive cardiac arrest onboard a United Airlines flight from London to L.A. Fisher was 60 years old.

The actress, adored the world over for her portrayal of Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy and the 2015 instalment The Force Awakens, was treated in the intensive care unit at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center after suffering a serious heart attack during her flight home. She’d been in the U.K. filming the third season of the British TV comedy, Catastrophe.

The daughter of Hollywood couple Eddie Fisher (d. 2010) and Debbie Reynolds (who died a day after her daughter at 84), Fisher had recently published The Princess Diarist, her eighth book, in which she made headlines after revealing an affair with her then-married Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford during filming of the original trilogy.

Fisher has frequently written about her struggles with fame, mental health issues and addiction. Her published her first novel, Postcards from the Edge, in 1987 to wide critical acclaim. The book, a thinly veiled autobiography about a cocaine-addicted actor trying to put her life together after a drug overdose, was later adapted into a 1990 film starring Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep.

Her one-woman show, Wishful Drinking, played on Broadway, and was filmed for HBO.

Fisher is survived her her 24-year-old daughter, actress Billie Lourd, younger brother, Todd, and two half-sisters.
