Collingwood’s Frozen in Time – Celebrate the Wonders of Winter

Rediscover and reconnect with you and your family this winter holiday with some ‘good old fashioned’ fun.

Between December 27 and January 4, Collingwood Downtown will feature an Ice Sculpture Celebration and a Winter Wonderland Village.

The Ice Sculpture Celebration has been growing over the last few years and now features over 30 statues throughout Collingwood Downtown.  Things are changing up this year to have the ice sculptures celebrate great moments in Collingwood’s rich history.   Statues are lit up wonderfully leaving kids in awe every time.  Also new this year will be history panels beside each carving!

Watching the creation of these spectacular ice sculptures is part of the fun.  December 27 marks the Arrival of the Sculptures, a dizzying day of construction as the sculptures get assembled throughout Collingwood Downtown.  Ice Carving Demonstrations by world renowned ice carvers will also take place daily between 1 and 4pm in front of the historic Federal Building.

Winter Wonderland Village is back for its second year at the Pine Street Central market square.  From December 28 to December 31, Pine Street Central will be filled with tents, cabins and activities for families.  The highlight will be the Battle of the Chainsaws on the Celebration Station, daily at noon.  Watch incredible ice carvers chain saw statues from blocks of ice, with a few extra twists…

A crackling fire in the middle of the Village will be there for extra warmth while watching the performing artists and musicians.  The Sugar Plum Pavilion will also have all kinds of  arts & crafts events like the popular ginger bread village building, bird house construction plus a colouring and toy station.

Another addition to the event this year is the Healthy Kids Community Challenges Activity Zones.  Three different activity zones will keep kids of all ages active with games of shinny, an obstacle course and the famous ice block building area.  If last year is any indication, lots of parents and grandparents end up getting involved in these activities too!

There’s even a Cocoa Cabin with free hot chocolate and apple cider to keep everyone warm and refreshed between breaks from all the fun.
