Conrad Murray to be Sentenced Today

Three weeks after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson, Dr. Conrad Murray will be sentenced Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in  Los Angeles Superior Court.

Though Jackson’s mother, Katherine, doesn’t believe Murray intended for the king of pop to die. She is hoping for the harshest sentence possible: four years in prison.

Judge Michael Pastor has options that range from  probation to up to four years in a state prison.

During the trial, prosecutors presented their evidence that Murray recklessly used the surgical anesthetic propofol  without proper monitoring equipment to aid Jackson’s sleep, and this led to the singer’s death.

Katherine Jackson will be in court today along with many of her children. Her grandchildren, Paris and Prince in Blanket, will not be attending.

Murray’s mother asked the judge for mercy in a letter, saying, “His compassion and his soft heartedness for others led to this dilemma.”

Prosecutors are asking a maximum of four years behind bars plus more than $100 million in restitution to Jackson’s children. Defence lawyers are seeking probation.
