Elton Opens Up About Past Drug Addiction

The very sad passing of superstar Whitney Houston was quite shocking- equally for her fans and friends in the entertainment business. Unfortunately, when the toxicology results confirmed that chronic cocaine usage was one of the causing factors, it was not quite as shocking. Whitney had a long public battle with drug use and addiction, not unlike many others in the industry. Her untimely and preventable demise has influenced another big name in music to open up about his personal struggle with cocaine addiction. Elton John has revealed that early in his career, he believes he took just as much cocaine as Whitney ever did. He kicked the habit in 1990 but is well aware that had he not he would have also faced an early death much like Houston. Elton has been clean for more than two decades and these days spends most of his time with long-time love David Furnish and their adorable son, Zachary. Houston’s story is one we know all too well. We can only hope Elton’s openness will inspire new up-and-comers in the entertainment business to stay clear of the many drug-fueled temptations that have become a part of Hollywood culture.
