Cheese Journey Through France

It’s impossible to talk about France without talking about its amazing selection of cheese.  And what’s better than talking about cheese? Sampling it! Ideally with some wine. Therefore, Vision Travel and J’adore Fine Cheese and Chocolate have teamed up with Insight Vacations to bring you a special customized tour: A Cheese Journey Through France August 15 to 23, 2019.

Tour Overview

Begin your journey in Paris and take in the City of Light’s world-famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower. Enjoy your first evening with your fellow travellers for a welcome dinner and start your immersion into the culinary delights of France.

From Paris, we will make our way to the rolling vineyards of the Loire Valley.  Using the stunning Château de Rochecotte as our base for two nights, we will take in Château de Villandry famous for its gardens and visit our first local fromagerie for a tasting of cheeses from the Loire region.  No visit to the Loire would be complete without a scenic drive to view the UNESCO world heritage castles that dot the landscapes, including Château d’Usse, the inspiration for Charles Perrault’s fairytale, Sleeping Beauty.

Crossing out of the Loire into Saumur, we stop off at a local winery. Here the vintner will guide us through a tasting of the region’s wines. Next, we head to the north coast of France to the Emerald Coast. After checking into our hotel, some guests might enjoy taking part in an optional experience to Cancale, for a seafood dinner featuring local Breton specialties.

Day five of our agenda finds us exploring the City of Corsairs, including the ancient walled city and the Cathedral which is the burial place of Jacques Cartier. We also visit the hilltop abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel and travel to the Tapestry Museum that chronicles the Norman invasion of Britain in 1066 before we arrive at our hotel in Deauville for a two-night stay.

Deauville is the ideal base from which to explore Normandy, including the town of Camembert.  We will spend our day learning about the different cheeses of the area at the Maison de Camembert and Fromagerie Durand.  Ending it with a visit to a 17th-century cider farm. During which there will be an opportunity to taste the wares. In the evening enjoy a farm to table dinner, prepared with local ingredients and served with local wines.

Making our way back to Paris, we stop in the charming fishing town of Honfleur and visit Rouen the capital of Normandy. Here there will be free time to visit the city’s cathedral, the subject of a series of paintings by Claude Monet and to wander the old city.

We end our tour with a romantic day in Paris. In small groups each led by a local foodie, travellers will delve into the Paris food scene at a patisserie, boulangerie, and a chocolatier concluding with an afternoon visit at Fromagerie Ganot.  For our last evening enjoy an unparalleled dinner of French cuisine and delicious wine.
