Greece really is the jewel of the Mediterranean and with our brand new tour for 2015; you will get to experience over 2,500 years of history and culture. Your holiday begins in Athens, the land of great philosophers, artists and the birthplace of democracy.  As host city for the 2004 Olympics, you’ll see the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament, the memorial to the Unknown Soldier and Constitution Square.  Also included is the Acropolis and Parthenon Temple built to honor the goddess Athena and visit to the new Acropolis Museum.

During your time in Athens you will also have a day to explore on your own to perhaps the Plaka district, Athens’ oldest and most picturesque neighborhood or enjoy a full day optional tour to Delphi and the Temple of Apollo, one of the most important archaeological sites in Greek history.  Delphi was the center of the ancient world and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This tour will then take you across the beautiful Aegean Sea, via a ferryboat cruise to the magical island of Mykonos, world famous for its windmills, whitewashed buildings and domed churches.  With a population of around 10,000 and just 33 square miles, you may wish to relax on one of the many sandy beaches or join others on an optional tour to the neighboring Island of Delos, fabled birthplace of Artemis and Apollo.

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the ruins of the ancient Minoan civilization, including the Agora, temples of Apollo, the Hippodrome, amphitheater and more.  Be sure to take some time to stroll through the central part of Mykonos town which is closed to traffic during most of the day and has a labyrinth of narrow streets, beautiful churches, lovely chapels and many purple Bougainvillea.

Next, you will travel to the volcanic island of Santorini.  Upon arrival, witness the majesty of the island’s spectacular 1000 foot high volcanic cliffs.  Santorini is also famous for the vista of its stacked whitewashed houses of Fira (the main town) perched on the side of the caldera, and one of the most photographed Greek Islands.  Be sure to visit the southern side of the island and resorts of Kamari and Perissa, most noted for their black volcanic sand.

Enjoy a full day to explore this wonderful and unique island paradise at your own pace or join an optional Island Highlights Tour where you will visit and see Akrotiri, a Bronze Age settlement that was destroyed by a huge volcanic eruption during the 17th century BC and has been preserved in perfect condition, the Red and Black beaches and traditional villages.  Santorini is also renowned for producing some of the best wine in Greece, so be sure to treat yourself while relaxing at a local restaurant or explore an array of shops for souvenirs and gifts.
