Book Feature: The Secret Keeper

Fans of Kate Morton’s previous books — The Distant Hours, The Forgotten Garden, and The House at Riverton — won’t be disappointed by her new novel The Secret Keeper, a sweeping tale of mystery, murder, and enduring love.

The story has the elements Kate Morton is known for: well-drawn characters, tangled family ties and dark secrets, all set against far-reaching historical events. In this case, the story spans from pre-WWII England through the blitz, to the ’60s up to the present.

Dorothy Nicolson, along with her husband, gave her four children an idyllic childhood on the family farm, called Greenacres, in the English countryside. But years later, with plans underway to celebrate the family matriarch’s 90th birthday, Dorothy’s eldest daughter, Laurel, (now a famous actress) is still haunted by a violent crime she witnessed when she was just 16. And as it emerges that her mother had a secret and mysterious past, Laurel is compelled to find out more.

But like most secrets, it is a dangerous one. It will, in fact, challenge everything she knows about her family and seemingly perfect mother.
