KD Lang, Sting and Elvis Costello were among other stars who paid tribute to Leonard Cohen at an intimate concert in Montreal on Monday to mark the first anniversary of his passing.
The show, titled "Tower of Song", was organized by the Cohen family. "My father left me with a list of instructions before he passed: 'Put me in pine box next to my mother and father. Have a small memorial for close friends and family in Los Angeles...and if you want, a public event in Montreal,'" the singer's son Adam Cohen said.
"I see this concert as a fulfillment of my duties to my father—that we gather in Montreal to ring the bells that still can ring."
Adam Cohen, who has followed in the footsteps of his father, joined Damien Rice and Coeur de Pirate for a performance of "The Partisan" and paired up with Lana del Rey to sing "Hotel Chelsea."
The event also included performances from big name artists like Elvis Costello and Sting but it was KD Lang's moving rendition of "Hallelujah" that seemed to be the highlight of the intimate show.
