H1N1 vaccine update

Information on seasonal flu shots and on the H1N1 vaccine is available in every province, by contacting public health or your family physician.

The Ontario Government, for example, has stated that people over 65 are generally at greater risk of catching seasonal flu than H1N1, and recommends that people 65 and older and residents of Long Term Care Homes get the season flu shot first.

Younger people are advised to get the H1N1 vaccine first, and, if necessary, the seasonal flu shot later.

Ontario

Will offer the H1N1 Vaccine on October 26th 2009. They will be starting with:

• People 65 and under with chronic conditions;

• Pregnant women;

• Healthy children 6 months to under five years of age;

• People living in remote or isolated communities;

• Health care workers;

• Household contacts and care providers of persons at high risk who cannot be immunized or may not respond to vaccine.

PEI

PEI will begin its immunization campaign October 26th. Announcements will start next week on the times and locations of upcoming clinics. The public is advised to watch for news in the local papers, visit www.gov.pe.ca/flu/ or call 1-888-748-5454 for further information.

Nova Scotia
