Linda Evangelista, who turned 50 this year, was already a successful model in the late 80’s but during a photo shoot in 1988 the hair stylist on-set transformed her look with one giant snip. The haircut (which initially brought Linda to tears) would become a cultural phenomenon and she has since said it “quadrupled” her rate. A star is sometimes born, one lock at a time. Here we look at some of Linda’s best hair moments.

1989 – Linda, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington at the start of the supermodel era. Linda’s hair is freshly shorn courtesy of hair stylist Julien d’Y, a beauty move that is credited with launching her to star status.

1991 – Linda’s “champagne beige” look—a term she coined, referring to her platinum blonde locks.

1991 – Same year, different hair colour. Evangelista changes it up and goes for a fiery red.

1993 – The hair is growing and golden

1994 – Linda went long and platinum. Here with fellow supermodel Kate Moss backstage during New York Fashion Week

1994 – A pro on the catwalk for Chanel Couture

1995 – A natural beauty

1997 – Backstage during the New York collections with the late make up maestro Kevin Aucoin.

2003 – Arriving to celebrate her star on Canada’s Walk of Fame.

2007 – Honey tones and highlights brighten her blonde bob at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.

2011 – A “lob” at an event promoting the Versace H&M collaboration

2015 – Co-chair of the Fragrance Foundation, Linda arrives with long, loose and wavy hair at the Fragrance Foundation Awards.
