Sexual Health: The Health Benefits of Sex

Hitting the mattress is more fun than
hitting the gym, and sex burns calories and fat. But there are other health
benefits of an active sex life that will make you want to get more between the
sheets.

1. Relieves stress: Forget about squeezing stress balls; squeeze each
other. A study at the University of Paisley in the U.K. showed that people who
had regular intercourse had better blood-pressure responses to stressful
situations.

2. Reduces blood pressure: Intimacy is also linked to lower blood
pressure. Cuddling and affection have the same benefits.

3. Eases pain: According to Health Canada, having sex causes the brain
to release endorphins natural chemicals that act as painkillers.

4. Minimizes risk of incontinence: Kegel exercises, which can be
performed during sex, strengthen the pelvic floor muscles those muscles that
support the urethra, bladder, uterus and rectum. An added perk is a more intense
orgasm.

5. Helps you sleep: Oxytocin, a chemical released during sex, can
induce a great slumber.

6. Lowers risk of prostate cancer: The more men ejaculate before 50,
the less chance of developing prostate cancer. So get out there and sow those
wild oats.
