After years of legal battles, Canada’s best known theatre impresario is heading to jail. Garth Drabinsky, whose company Livent Inc. brought musicals (such as Phantom of the Opera) to stages across North America, has lost his appeal on 2009 fraud conviction and has been ordered to begin serving his five year sentence. Yesterday, the Ontario Court of Appeals upheld convictions against Drabinsky and partner Myron Gottlieb, ruling that they had misstating Livent’s losses, disguising losses from shareholders. )
