The Magic of Magic Mushrooms

Sometimes (well, most of the time it seems) it takes a study to authenticate a conclusion we could come up with on our own.

For example, earlier this year a European study discovered that an hour of exercise every day would help teens beat the effects of an obesity-related gene nicknamed “fatso.” Really? Exercise equals better health? Thanks, doc.

This time around, it’s magic mushrooms.
U.S. researchers gave 12 cancer patients a moderate dose of psilocybin (which produces similar effects as LSD, also known as magic mushrooms), helping ease their anxiety. Really? An hallucinogen will help ease someone’s stress and anxiety? Yes, there are many variables to take into account, but did we need a study to figure that out?

Regardless, it’s good to know there are researchers out there pushing the envelope, reviving the magic of the ’60s and ’70s with honourable intentions.
