Women gives up grand prix ticket to attend christening

An American woman gave up a £770 ticket to the British Grand Prix to attend the christening of Princess Charlotte.
Laurie Spencer, 52, from Florida, had been scheduled to attend the annual motor racing event in the UK – which was won by reigning Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton – but instead opted to spend the day at a church in Sandringham.
She told the BBC: “When I found out the christening was happening while we were here I knew I just had to be there, but there was no way my husband was.
“We were having dinner last night and somebody on the next table heard us talking and asked if he could have my ticket instead, so they have gone to the Grand Prix and I have come here.”
A sizeable number of well wishers attended the high-profile event, with people bringing flowers asked to give them to representatives of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, where the Duchess of Cambridge is a patron.
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh were among those in attendance at the event, as were Carole and Michael Middleton – the parents of the Duchess of Cambridge.
