La Baguette, Miami

North Miami’s new all-night outpost La Baguette is officially considered a vital part of the sunny city’s sandwich revolution. Seemingly out of context in its Little Havana locale, the French-named La Baguette might not make geographic sense. But once you bite into one of the fancy sammies, like the mozzarella and prosciutto croissant, you’ll be thinking with your stomach not with your head and believe me everything will come together… Well maybe not your pants’ snap; that actually might come apart.

La Baguette has oft been compared to South Beach’s La Sandwicherie – in that you might be craving a baguette stuffed with turkey, roast beef and pâté and actually get one. But the bizarre irony, when comparing the two arguably similar locales, is that La Baguette – rife with modern barstools, deluxe, canopied outdoor seating – is much more South beach than the tiny sandwich bar that is La Sandwicherie.

Open 24/7, La Baguette caters to hoards of starving businessmen as well as the downtown club crowd. And lately downtown Miami has enjoyed a micro-renaissance in the nightlife scene, with a smattering of openings, including the multi-faceted venue Mia.

I have a feeling La Baguette will have Miami screaming soon enough: “Hungry or not, Here I come.”
