The Intouchables – starts June 1 in Toronto
From directors Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache comes this feel good dramatic comedy based on true events that has topped European box offices and become the second highest grossing film of all time in France. After a paragliding accident, Philippe, a rich aristocrat, hires Driss — a young guy from the projects recently released from prison — as his caregiver… in other words, the person least suited for the job. Together they will blend Vivaldi and Earth, Wind and Fire, elegant diction and street jive, suits and sweatpants. Their two worlds collide and come to terms with each other, giving birth to a friendship as crazy, comical and strong as it is unexpected, a unique relationship that will create sparks and make them… untouchable.
Up and coming comedy star Omar Sy received the 2012 César Award (France’s Oscar) for Best Actor for his outstanding performance as Driss, Philippe’s unlikely but undeniably lovable and charismatic caregiver. Sy is the first man of African descent to receive the César Award for Best Actor. His performance also beat out Jean Dujardin, The Artist’s Academy Award winner for Best Actor, for this prestigious award.
The Intouchables opens June 1 at Cineplex Varsity and Sheppard Cinemas.
