Moon River singer Andy Williams dead at 84

Andy Williams died Tuesday night at his home in Branson, Missouri, following a year-long battle with bladder cancer, his Los Angeles-based publicist, Paul Shefrin, said Wednesday. He is survived by his second wife, Debbie, and his three children, Robert, Noelle and Christian.

According to an article in The Montreal Gazette, Moon River was first performed by Audrey Hepburn in the beloved 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but Henry Mancini — one of the song’s writers — thought it better suited for Williams, who recorded it in “pretty much one take.”
