BOOK OF THE WEEK: THE GREAT GATSBY BY F. SCOTT FITZGERALD

There’s no denying that Baz Luhrmann’s new film adaptation of F. Scott’s Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is polarizing. Critics seem to either love it or hate it. But it seems the source material might contribute to these extremes of opinion. FItzgerald’s novel of opulent life in 1920’s, and Jay Gatsby’s love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan has inspired both praise and derision since it was first published in 1925. If you haven’t read it in decades, why not revisit before seeing the film? We love the gorgeous edition designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith for Penguin Classics, with its elegant gold foil jacket. Opulent indeed.
