Prop 19 a Bust in California

Marijuana legalization in California went up in smoke yesterday. Results showed 56 per cent of voters rejecting Proposition 19 and 44 per cent supporting it, with 16 per cent precincts reporting.

Prop 19 supporters are not completely surprised, though. Polls showed that support for the “green” initiative had been on the decline in recent days.

If Prop 19 were passed, it would have meant that people 21 years and older could possess up to one ounce of marijuana and grow up to 2.25 square metres of marijuana.

Local governments would have also had the authority to tax and regulate the drug’s cultivation and retail sale.
