In Case you Missed the Golden Globes: A Rundown of the Winners
Last night, the Golden Globes marked Ricky Gervais second (most likely last) time hosting the event. His dark humour seemed to bring down the spirit of the evening, opening with some of the easiest jabs: “It’s going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking, or as Charlie Sheen calls it- breakfast,” insulting the president of the foreign press, “Now, Eva Longoria has the daunting task of introducing the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press. That’s nothing. I just had to help him off the toilet and pop his teeth in.”
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen did have an opportunity to jab back, though, saying. “We recall back when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian.” Allen replied, “Neither of which he is now.”
Zoomer highlights: Paul Giamatti won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) in Barney’s Version and his speech had a special place in Canadian hearts as he saluted Montreal and the “great nation of Canada.”
Jane Lynch won for her role as Sue Sylvester on Glee and was sassy as usual saying, “I am nothing if not falsely humble.”
Another highlight of the evening was when cancer survivor Michael Douglas received a standing ovation while presenting an award and said,”There’s got to be an easier way to get a standing ovation.” He looked very healthy and said he was very happy to be there.
