Winner: Retired Woodbridge Man Takes $50 Million Jackpot

Rod Phillips, OLG's President and CEO presented Mr. Varone with the $50 million dollar cheque today in a news conference at the OLG Prize Centre. "We have been awaiting Mr. Varone's arrival," said Phillips. "Mr. Varone is the biggest winner on a single ticket in Ontario history."

Seventy-three-year-old Franco Varone played it cool after finding out he matched all seven numbers on the Lotto Max ticket he played for so many years. Varone waited two weeks to claim his ticket because he wanted time to think about what he is going to do with the money. The Italian immigrant and his wife waited for his family of four children and four grandchildren to gather at Thanksgiving before sharing the news that was met with tears. “I think there will be a trip involved with the whole family, but I will take my time in deciding how to spend the $50 million,” Varone said. Varone also mentioned he would share a bit with his large family.
