Zoomer Forecast: The Grammys

The Zoomer forecast is in for this Sunday’s Grammy Awards, and the roster reads like a Hall of Fame line-up: Bennett, Streisand, McCartney Springsteen, and The Beach Boys among others.

The show’s biggest news has been decades in the making: The Beach Boys will mark their 50th anniversary by performing live for the first time in over twenty years (hurray) as part of a medley with (sigh) Maroon 5 and Foster the People.

The impressive roster of performers continues with Zoomer magazine cover star Tony Bennett (with Carrie Underwood), Paul McCartney, Canadian songstress Diana Krall (a multi-time Grammy winner in her own right), Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Bonnie Raitt (in a highly anticipated performance alongside Alicia Keys) and Glenn Campbell (with Blake Shelton and The Band Perry).

As far as nominations go, Tony Bennett is up for two awards, including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his song “Body And Soul”, performed with the late Amy Winehouse on his current album Duets II. The other nomination falls under the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, for Duets II. Bennett faces some still competition here, going head to head with heavyweights Barbra Streisand (What Matters Most – Barbra Streisand Sings The Lyrics Of Alan And Marilyn Bergman), Harry Connick Jr. (In Concert On Broadway) and possible spoiler Susan Boyle (The Gift).

As well, legendary rocker Jeff Beck picked up a nod in the Best Rock Album category for his album Rock ‘N’ Roll Party Honoring Les Paul, while country great George Strait’s Here For A Good Time is in the running for Best Country Album.

All in all, it looks like the 54th Grammy Awards is shaping up to be one awards show you might want to stay up half the night to watch all the way through.

The 2012 Grammy Awards air Sunday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. on CBC. For more information, visit http://www.grammy.com/.
