Duke of Cambridge ‘thrilled’ for England Lionesses

Britain’s Duke of Cambridge is “thrilled” for England Women’s football team.
Prince William – who is president of the Football Association – has sent a message of support to the Lionesses after they won a place in the Women’s World Cup semi-finals and revealed he “can’t wait” for the match against Japan tomorrow (01.07.15).
In a statement, the Duke of Cambridge said: “Congratulations to both the English and Canadian teams for such a great game in the Women’s World Cup quarter-finals.
“As president of the FA I’m thrilled to see the England women progress to the semi-finals for the first time. This team is making history and I can’t wait to see them in action against Japan.
“I know a lot of people have been following the team’s progress and I’m sure many more will now seize the chance to support this great moment for English football. The Lionesses are doing their country proud.”
The Duke met the England squad at the end of May when they presented him with an England shirt for his Princess Charlotte, and he revealed his newborn daughter had been giving him “sleepless nights” at the time.
The England Lionesses captain Steph Houghton said: “He said George is very lively, and Princess Charlotte has been keeping him up all night, giving him a few sleepless nights. But he said he was just happy to have them both here.”
