Prince Charles offers to buy a round

Britain’s Prince Charles offered to buy a round in a pub hit by floods.
The 67-year-old royal and his wife Duchess Camilla were shown around the New Inn in Stamford Bridge, East Yorks, yesterday (18.02.16), as landlady Helen Ambler explained how flooding on Boxing Day (26.12.15) saw the building swamped by the River Ouse, leaving 3ft of raw sewage and water.
However, Charles was unable to buy any drinks as the pub is currently being repaired.
Helen said: “He offered to buy the pub a drink. He asked if he could pop in the next time he’s passing.
“It’s nice to be recognised that we’ve had a problem.
“A lot of the emphasis has been on York but we had it quite bad and it was very good to meet them.”
The prince chatted to workers about how they are returning the pub to normal, and took a particular interest in the bar, which has already been restored by a local craftsman.
The couple were welcomed to the village by hundreds of well-wishers, who lined the square.
One local joked it was the first time a royal had visited Stamford Bridge since 1066 when King Harold beat a Viking army then marched south for his fatal battle with William The Conqueror near Hastings.
