Duchess Catherine visits Portsmouth

Britain’s Duchess Catherine paid a visit to the headquarters of 1851 Trust in Portsmouth on Friday (20.05.16).
The 34-year-old royal took a trip to Hampshire, south England today to call into the charity centre, of which she’s Royal Patron, to learn about current and upcoming projects set up to inspire young people to take up sailing.
The brunette beauty – who was known as Kate Middleton before she married Prince William in 2011 – launched the 1851 Trust’s two flagship sailing projects in partnership with UKSA and the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, before meeting people involved in the encouraging schemes.
Catherine then officially declared the new Tech Deck Education Centre, which allows visitors to witness the construction and ongoing operation of America’s Cup boats, open and learnt about the technology involved in sailing.
She then went on to meet a group of schoolchildren taking part in the #STEMCREW digital workshops, which focus on the science and engineering of the America’s Cup challenge.
Meanwhile, the duchess is no stranger to the Trust as she and her husband William were scheduled to attend the America’s Cup World Series in Portsmouth in July 2015 but the tournament was called off due to poor weather.
