Prince William meets Angela Merkel

Prince William is to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel for the first time at a British Armed Forces gala on Tuesday night (23.08.16).
The 34-year-old royal is expected to give a speech at the event in Dusseldorf, which marks the 70th of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, at Tonhalle where musical performances and films will be screened.
Mrs. Merkel is also expected to speak at the ceremony, according to London’s Evening Standard newspaper.
The Duke of Cambridge’s trip will also see him attend a parade with the regional minister Hannelore Kraft.
William will then be honoured with the Fahnenband, which is the federal state’s highest military honour.
The Twitter page for Kensington Palace confirmed: “The Duke will visit Dusseldorf on 23 August to celebrate 70 years of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia #70JahreNRW (sic)”
Whilst on his trip, William – who has three-year-old Prince George and Princess Charlotte, 15-months, with his wife the Duchess of Cambridge – will honour the work of the British Forces Germany and their strong bond with Britain.
The palace added: “During the visit, HRH will attend events honouring the role of the British Forces Germany, and the strong ties between NRW and Britain(sic).”
The trip to Dusseldorf comes before a planned trip to Cornwall and the Isle of Scilly on September 1 and September 2.
And the couple’s planned trip to Canada from September 24 to October 1.
