Cellar’s Choice: Showcasing Jacob’s Creek’s Australian Wine Regions

When Bavarian-born Johann Gramp, nostalgic for the wines of his homeland, purchased a parcel of land on the banks of Jacob’s Creek in 1847, his intention was to produce wines that spoke authentically of their surroundings.

Philosophically, nothing has changed since Gramp planted the Barossa’s first commercial vineyards 160 years ago. Always exploring progressive wine-making methods, Jacob’s Creek never loses sight of its lengthy viticultural heritage. Today, the wines are still shaped primarily by the land and the people who work it.

The fruit for Jacob’s Creek is sourced from three of South Australia’s premier wine-growing regions, where the fertile soil, cooling breezes and blazing sun combine efforts with over 120 different farmers who carefully tend the earth.

BAROSSA

Home to some of the world’s oldest living vines, the Barossa is one of Australia’s renowned wine-growing regions. The heartland of South Australia’s wine country is also where you’ll find the Jacob’s Creek Visitor’s Centre. Warm days and cool nights in the Barossa are ideal for cultivating luscious Shiraz, prized for its bouquet of bright blackberry and spice and full, silky palate of dark fruits elegantly interwoven with oak.

ADELAIDE HILLS

Part of the Mount Lofty Ranges, the spectacular Adelaide Hills are internationally recognized for producing vibrant and sophisticated high altitude wines. The cool climate, consistent rainfall and diverse terrain in this young and booming region allow varietals like Chardonnay, Sauvingnon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Noir to flourish, resulting in wines with remarkable zest and complexity. Born on the rolling hills of Adelaide, Jacob’s Creek Reserve Chardonnay is rich yet lifted on the palate with aromas of citrus, white peach and creamy cashews.

COONAWARRA

Within the Limestone Coast wine zone, lay the flat plains of Coonawarra, famous for their terra rosaor red earth, and subterranean limestone deposits. Cool breezes blowing off the Southern Ocean help to maintain a temperate climate especially friendly to Cabernet Sauvignon. Here the grapes ripen slowly, contributing incredible concentration and structure to the finished wines and blessing them with great aging potential. Jacob’s Creek Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is bold yet elegant, expressing flavours of dark plum and tobacco leaf with great intensity and length, making it the perfect pairing for roasted lamb or braised beef.
