Introducing… SWARM: Nature By Numbers!

Our brand new gallery is O-FISH-ALLY open! Come face-to-face with Halloween Crabs and enjoy the calming view of Blue Blubber Jellyfish. Meet our Clean Team in our new touch pool featuring Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp. From Flashlight Fish to Coral Catfish, there are over 1,000 new creatures to meet when you enter the eye of the SWARM…

Featured Creatures:

Halloween Crabs

Pinch, pinch, pinch! You do not want to touch these, but they are definitely fun to watch! These crabs are land crabs and love to dig. They are found throughout mangrove habitats in the Caribbean and Central America. They burrow during the day and emerge at night to feed on leaf litter and vegetation. Crabs are social creatures and they live happier, healthier lives when they are surrounded by other crabs!

Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp

These fascinating creatures most definitely live up to their name. They are omnivorous scavengers, and are often seen in “cleaning stations” in Pacific reefs. They will pick off parasites, dead skin, algae, and leftover food from other fish, or a patient human hand! Gently place your hand in our *NEW* touch pool and let our Clean Team go to work – your skin and nails will feel ‘shrimply’ amazing afterwards!

Lookdowns

This striking fish, which can already be found in our Dangerous Lagoon, finally gets a spotlight. Lookdowns are found throughout shallower, temperate waters of the western Atlantic. They are distinguished by their compressed body and tiny scales which give them a silvery shimmer!

Coral Catfish

This saltwater fish looks like a mix between an eel and a freshwater catfish. It is found in the Eastern Mediterranean, Indian, and Western Pacific oceans. It has venomous spines on its dorsal and pectoral fins. Juveniles of this species are famous for their dense schools, which can have over 100 individuals.

…Plus many, many more!
