Fairmont’s Signature Scent
With Le Labo

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts first partnered with Le Labo Fragrances over seven years ago to launch a distinctive in-room amenity line: Rose 31, a hallmark scent of the boutique fragrance maker. The latter to help create genuine connections between place and people through scent. The line of hair, body and soap products have become a staple of any stay at Fairmont properties across the globe. The appealing smell of roses features a chorus of warm, spicy, floral, and woodsy notes, special to the Fairmont guest experience.

This past May, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Le Labo brought a group of top international travel bloggers together to experience the true essence of the partnership, but most importantly, to eye-witness the rose harvest that brings the Rose 31 scent to life in Le Labo’s factory.

“It’s truly a labor of love and work of art.”

A lavish retreat that puts the entire destination at your doorstep and allows you to immerse yourself in the region’s joie de vivre.

Nestled between Italy and France, on the Côte d’Azur, the Principality of Monaco offers guests more than 300 days of sunshine each year. Although the fabulous climate is a primary attraction, people are also drawn to the region’s warm engaging colors, the variety of its surroundings and the friendliness of the people. From the deep blue of the Mediterranean to the dazzling white canyons of the inland countryside, Monaco never stops revealing surprises.

For a short 10 days during the month of May, the Centifolia rose harvest occurs in Grasse, France. This is the only area in the world that grows these roses due to the unique combination of climate, soil, and most importantly, love, dedication and attention provided by the farmers. Centifolia roses are one of the rarest roses in the world – they are so delicate that they can’t be used in bouquets because they would simply fall apart. In the distance, you can see the family-owned, sixth generation Le Labo rose fields, where these strongly scented roses are collected to create the unique Rose 31 fragrance.

Picking the roses from the fields is no easy feat. Numerous thorns are involved and back work and mobility are necessary. It takes approximately 60,000 roses to produce just a single ounce of rose oil. A short drive down the road, top luxury perfume brands cultivate their roses too – Dior, Chanel, and Hermes, to name a few. The roses are picked from sunrise to sunset and are then taken to the distillery where they are laid flat to avoid any damage. The next morning, the fields are booming with the roses that flourished overnight and ready to be picked all over again. Another short car ride away stands Le Labo’s factory where the final steps to curate the magical Rose 31 scent take place.

About Le Labo

Le Labo was born in Grasse, the capital of perfumery, and flourished in New York where Edouard Roschi and Fabrice Penot opened the first lab in 2006. The company’s values are based on building unique, soulful, one-of-a-kind fragrances through attention to detail and delicate craftsmanship. In addition to their classic collection of 16 scents, Le Labo also carries city exclusive scents for Tokyo, Paris, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, London, Chicago, Moscow, San Francisco, and Dubai. Their scents go beyond the fragrance bottle, and can be found in forms of body wash, hair care, candles, detergent, and other oddities.

Each location is designed as a fragrance lab, and before the eyes of the public, the essential oil concentrate is mixed with alcohol and water, making each bottle of perfume freshly handmade to order at point of purchase. Wrapped in a customized label every time, Le Labo perfumes make for memorable gifts and keepsakes.
