THE HOTEL WITH BUZZ

Since introducing bees in 2008 in an effort to aid Colony Collapse Disorder within North American honeybees, the hotel has worked in tandem with the Honeybee Centre, BC Honey Producers and Hives for Humanity to maintain the hives and their colonies. Up to 250,000 honeybees call the rooftop of the Fairmont Waterfront home every summer, producing an average of 200lbs of honey per season which is then sustainably harvested and can be sampled in honey-infused cocktails and dishes in ARC Restaurant.

In an exciting partnership with Hives for Humanity, the hotel has introduced mason bees to the hotel’s garden as part of the Pollinator Corridor Project. These “super-pollinators” are tiny, docile bees that don’t produce honey but are essential for the garden and the planet.

Want to get up close and personal? Daily bee tours are open to both guests and the public throughout the summer from the Bee Butler and members of his Bee Team.

TAKE TIME TO SMELL THE HERBS

The hotel’s 2,100 square foot herb garden was introduced in 1995 and was one of the first green roofs in Vancouver. The organically farmed garden is an oasis in the city, providing calming views, acting as a bird sanctuary, and supplying plenty of fresh bounty for the Chef’s plant-to-plate menu creations. It is also recognized by the Canadian Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife Friendly Habitat.

WATERFRONT LUXURY
