The Hidden Human Network

Over the last six years, Canada House Clinics has treated over 12,000 Canadians using cannabinoid therapy. Our patients are living better, more fulfilling lives and one of the main reasons for that is medical cannabis and its interaction with the endocannabinoid system.

The endocannabinoid system is a vast network of molecules called endocannabinoids that bind with receptors (simply called cannabinoid receptors). The receptors are found in large amounts throughout the entire body – with the majority located in the brain, nervous system, and immune system. The endocannabinoid system is involved with regulating:

  • Appetite
  • Pain
  • Fertility
  • Mood
  • Memory

Cannabinoid molecules from the cannabis plant can interact with our endocannabinoid system. This is how cannabis can help treat such a variety of medical conditions.

If you’ve never heard of the endocannabinoid system, you’re not alone. The system was only discovered relatively recently (in the early ’90s). As such, we’re still learning exactly how it works. That’s probably why, in a 2013 survey of medical schools, only 13% were teaching future doctors about the endocannabinoid system. It’s no wonder most physicians have little to no knowledge about it.

Patients, on the other hand, are asking their doctors about medical cannabis. In a 2015 survey, 79% of physicians have been approached by a patient or their family to discuss using cannabis for medical purposes.

Clearly, there is a gap between the desire of the patient to explore cannabinoid therapy and the ability of most doctors to advise them in an informed manner. Canada House Clinics fills that gap.

Our medical staff is comprised of nurse educators, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants – all trained on how to use cannabinoid therapy to treat a variety of conditions.

With a referral from your physician or documentation of your diagnosis, we start with assessing if you would be a suitable candidate for cannabinoid therapy. If you are, we provide education about medical cannabis and then our team creates a treatment plan backed by data and personalized to you.

We follow up with you after 90 days to adjust treatment if necessary. In the meantime, you will always be able to connect with one of our trained Cannabinoid Therapy Educators if you have any questions or concerns.

Conditions we typically treat are:

  • Chronic pain
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
