Escape to New Horizons This Fall

Dear Travellers,

It’s hard to believe we are officially halfway through the year! How has 2023 been for you so far? We hope your winter and early spring have been pleasant. Perhaps, you even spread your wings and enjoyed some travel?

As we enter June, we look forward to celebrating a number of great occasions, like the official end of school season for the grandchildren. Ironically, the month of June was named after Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth and a champion of women! The longest day of the year unfolds on June 21st and of course, we celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday, June 18!

When it comes to travel, this edition will delight you with a potpourri of fabulous fall destinations! Whether you thirst for a wine-tasting tour of France, yearn to explore the spectacular scenery of America’s Southwest, or are drawn to an exotic journey to India, we have some great tour ideas for you to consider.

Without further adieu, let’s dive right in and explore our destinations!

France Wine Routes: Sip, Savour & Stroll

Ah, la Belle France, a country renowned for its wine culture. It’s where you’ll find the world’s most famous and prestigious wine regions, each with its unique terroir, grape varieties, and winemaking traditions. The historical province of Champagne, around the city of Reims, produces the sparkling wine that bears its name. This includes Dom Perignon, the most celebrated brand of vintage champagne in the world!  Did you know Dom Perignon was actually named after a 17th-century Benedictine monk who pioneered champagne making? Read about him here.

Discover your Favourite Grape Variety and Vintage
What wines are from France, you wonder, and which areas are most exciting to explore? In the east, Alsace’s vineyards are known for their aromatic white wines, such as Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Burgundy, a beautiful region in central eastern France with rolling green hills and medieval chateaux is famous for producing some of the world’s most expensive and sought-after wines: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Even in the heart of Paris, one can find vineyards that produce wonderful wines. At the Clos Montmartre (near the famous Sacre Coeur) grapes are harvested and fermented within the city limits. Are you tempted to travel through these delicious regions of France? You’ll be pleased to know we have a two-week tour of The Wine Routes of France from September 19 to October 2 that will take you through Reims, Alsace, Burgundy– and Paris, too. We hope you may consider joining this tour.

America’s Southwest: Spectacular Fall Colours & Canyon Wonders

The American Southwest is a land of stunning contrasts. Towering mountains give way to rugged deserts. Vibrant cities shine out alongside sweeping natural vistas. From the rocky mountain peaks of Colorado to the red rock canyons of Utah and Nevada, this wonderful region boasts an abundance of awe-inspiring landscapes you simply must experience in your lifetime.

In Arizona, of course, you find the iconic Grand Canyon. It’s a breathtaking wonder that is more than 277 miles long and up to 18 miles wide. When the sun sets, the neon lights of Las Vegas shine brightly, offering non-stop entertainment and excitement.

Speaking of the Grand Canyon, here are three interesting facts that may surprise you:

  • Members of one Native American tribe – the Havasupai – still live inside the canyon.
  • The Canyon was totally unknown to Europeans until 1540 (it was the Spanish who first arrived, led by Hopi guides).
  • The California Condor is making a big comeback. Read more about how this majestic bird of prey is flourishing again in America – and can be spotted in the Grand Canyon.

Drive Through The Grandeur of the Southwest
The Southwest is a place where ancient traditions blend with modern ways of life. It’s a land where cowboy culture is still alive and well, and the delicious cuisine – from huevos rancheros to fajitas, fresh guacamole, and chicken-fried steak– is as varied and spicy as the scenery. You can read about the food of the Southwest here.

Journeying through the canyonlands, from Colorado west through Utah, and then through the desert-scapes of Arizona and Nevada is a breathtaking road trip you just have to take.  This October, during the beautiful fall season with its golden hues, you can tour it with us! During our Spectacular Southwest tour, you will be driven in comfort from Denver all through the canyons, cliffs, fascinating ghost towns, and stunning national parks – all the way to glamorous, glittering Las Vegas! Are you on board for the ride?

Intoxicating India:  A Kaleidoscope of Exotic Customs and Cultures

There is simply no place in the world like India. It is a country of striking contrasts: soul-stirring man-made wonders, teaming modern cities, and heart-breaking natural beauties. All at once, India embraces and uplifts your senses. There’s the fragrant smell of sandalwood, roses, and jasmine that sweetened the Maharaja’s estate. Savour the taste of saffron, cumin, and coriander, wafting from a plate of Biryani rice or Tandoori chicken.

From the bustling city of Mumbai, the country’s gateway with its Jain temples and Malabar Hill… through opulent palaces, mysterious caves, the pink city of Jaipur – and the great Ganges River, flowing from high in the Himalayas, India is a world away. It is so hard to evoke this magnificent country in just a few words and images. You must travel there.

Encounters With Wildlife In Ranthambore Park
India also brings rare encounters with nature.  Ranthambore National Park, the former hunting grounds of the Maharajas, is home to a vast number of animals: hyenas, leopards, crocodiles, and the majestic Bengal tiger. No trip to India would be complete without a visit to Agra, home to one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal. Built by the Mogul emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, this iconic monument is a testament to love and devotion and is sure to leave you in awe. Read here about how the Taj Mahal was built out of love.  Would you love to visit India with us? This fall, we have a 18-day tour called Incredible India which will take you through all the wonders of this rich, historic, and exotic country.
