Trivia of the day for September 3
The little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus) is a very common type of North American bat. This small bat has dark brown fur which becomes a paler shade toward his belly. His back is quite glossy. The membranes of the wings are dark brown in color. This bat has small, short, black ears and a normal wingspan between 8 and 11 inches. A full grown adult bat usually weighs about half an ounce at the most. The teeth are very sharp.
The bat is an insectivore. Its diet consists of wasps, gnats, beetles, moths, midges, mayflies, mosquitoes and a host of other insects. Where there is an abundance of mosquitoes this bat can consume up to 600 mosquitoes per hour.
