Bathrooms can be functional and beautiful

Is your bathroom one of the millions that look gorgeous but because of those little aches and pains is not functional anymore?  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if someone could build functionality for those with mobility issues into an aesthetically beautiful bathroom?  Someone has.

Premier Care has several simple, thoughtful and attractive solutions that will give your bathroom back its youth and vitality while providing a feeling of safety and security.

For so many of us bathroom is a place where we can shut out the trials of daily life and spend a few moments in comfort. As we age, we may find that we need that serenity even more but our bathroom offers little comfort. The bathroom itself may become the place you most want to get away from because your body doesn’t quite function the way it did. Perhaps it used to be easy to turn the tap and now arthritis makes such movement painful or maybe your legs won’t easily get in or out of the bathtub. Then there’s the constant worry of slipping on the wet floor.

If you think this won’t ever happen to you, think again. 74% of fall related injuries occur in the bathroom.

Premier Care in Bathing understands that many who suffer from various medical conditions need a lot of assistance in their daily bathroom routine. However, Premier Care doesn’t feel that aesthetics have to be compromised when people are looking to make their bathroom a safer environment. They can supply a range of bathroom equipment that can help make a bathing experience safer and more enjoyable.

Here are some simple steps to upgrade your bathroom back to the functionality you need.

Let’s start with the bathtub. The outward opening, waterproof door in most Premier Care Walk-In baths offer easy access. They take away the risk of slipping and falling when stepping over the side of a tub or entering the shower. If mobility is severely limited there are models with powered seats that effortlessly lift you up, over and into the tub.  Other features include soothing hydrovescent therapy (designed to relieve aches and pains in muscles), grab rails and easy-to-turn faucets.

As well as the standard models, there are also rejuvenating spas that combine several sensory therapies: the soothing effects of Chromatherapy, Aromatherapy and relaxing Foot Massage Therapy. You can easily create a spa in your own home with the Spa Series Walk-In Baths that are available on Haven, Sanctuary, and Laguna models.

If you have arthritis simple job of turning a tap can be excruciating. Today’s technology and ergonomic designs offer many solutions.  Consider changing your sink fixture to a lever handle or touch free model. You may even be able to buy a touch free adaptor that fits onto some existing standard taps.

If you are one of the many who find it difficult to sit down to relieve yourself, a different kind of relief is at hand. There are toilets that are engineered to sit higher off the floor so that users don’t have to bend their knees as much to get down and up again. If replacing the toilet is out of the question, toilet risers that lift the entire toilet 3 to 5 inches higher are available.  You may want to invest in an bidet toilet seat if reaching to clean yourself causes you pain.

Regardless of the size of your bathroom, it’s divided into sections – each having its own specific function (sink and mirror, bathtub and/or shower, and toilet). Lighting needs are different in each section and if your current bathroom has only one light fixture the needs of the sections are not being well served. Consider adding lighting to the mirror that satisfies both a women’s need for applying makeup and a man’s need for shaving. A light in the bathtub or shower would also be a beneficial addition.  If upper body mobility is an issue installing a motion detector light switch that turns on when you enter the bathroom and off after you leave may just be what you need.

A fall in the bathroom can be detrimental and something that can avoided. Hard floors are a potential hazard because even a small amount of moisture can make them very slick. You can choose to install moisture and/or mildew resistant carpeting because it does not lift or move like a non-slip rug can, plus it is warmer to walk on and softer if there is a fall.  If carpet in the bathroom doesn’t appeal to you, then the installation of a heating mat under the ceramic tiles will quickly evaporate the water and the warmth will feel great after you get out of the tub.

With a few home improvements and modifications, you can stay safe at home and live independently for many years.
