McMichael’s Moonlight Gala, June 6, 2015

McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s fourth annual signature fundraiser set to welcome 500 distinguished guests for an unforgettable evening under the stars.

The McMichael, Canada’s gallery, is renowned for its unique and inspiring Canadian experience. From the stunning art to the 100 acres of woodlands, McMichael celebrates the art, peoples, culture and history of Canada. It is the only major public art gallery devoted solely to collecting the art of Canada with a permanent collection of almost 6,000 artworks by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, and First Nations, Inuit and other artists both historic and contemporary who have contributed to Canada’s artistic heritage. The McMichael houses thirteen exhibition galleries with floor-to-ceiling windows framing marvelous views of the densely wooded Humber River Valley. Along meandering outdoor paths and breathtaking hiking trails, visitors discover massive outdoor sculptures, the Tom Thomson Shack and the McMichael Cemetery where six Group of Seven members and gallery founders Robert and Signe McMichael have been laid to rest.

Next month, the McMichael hosts its signature fundraising event. The McMichael’s Moonlight Gala takes place in the spectacular Grand Hall and under the stars in the natural scenery of the McMichael grounds.

The evening presented by Hatch and Deloitte, features a culinary extravaganza, award-winning Ontario wines, musical entertainment, and a live and silent auction of unique and exceptional items.

This year’s entertainment headliner is international Latin jazz sensation, Amanda Martinez. Ms. Martinez’s music is a unique blend of her Mexican and South African roots with Latin soul. Other performers include the 2014 Gala-favourite jazz band, The Collective (Alana Bridgewater, Sean Jones and Miles Rainey), and JUNO Award-winner, Sophie Milman.

Proceeds from the McMichael Moonlight Gala support excellence in educational programming, permanent collection, special exhibitions, and help keep the McMichael an extraordinary place to visit.

Honorary patrons include Jeanne Beker C.M., Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Karen Goldenberg C.M., Roberta Jamieson C.M., Catherine Nugent, Charles Pachter O.C., Felice Sabatino, and Cherry Tabb. Beverly Thomson, co-host of Canada AM will once again host the event.
