Five Ways to Enjoy A Solo Valentine’s Day

This Valentine’s Day when your Facebook feed is flooded with photos of heart-shaped chocolates and sizable bouquets – remember, the grass could be greener on the other side but maybe it’s fertilized with you-know-what. Keep in mind, for every photo gushing with sweet gestures, there are many jilted (un?) loved ones disappointed because their expectations were not sufficiently met. I say, embrace being single on this day (wrongfully) reserved for couples and show yourself a little extra love. These are my five ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day sans Valentine.

Treat Yourself – Just you, no co-ordinating times to match another person’s schedule or swapping your favourite activity for something dreadful like your ex’s fondness for coin-collecting and reality television.

Indulge – If you’re a foodie who loves to cook, buy the freshest ingredients and try a new recipe. You do not have to avoid the ingredients your ex loathed – pile on the cilantro, onions or mushrooms – it’s for you only! The best part is staying away from the crowded restaurant scene on the busiest night of the year.

Sweets – This is not the time to stick to your diet. Dive into your mound of chocolate sans guilt. Don’t bother cutting yourself a piece of the cake – just dive in with a fork. Yay to no sharing!

Bubble Time – Let’s be real, no matter how big the bathtub it is made for one. Set the temperature to your preference and enjoy a good soak without the leg cramp. Just sit back and enjoy the silence and “me time.”

Screen Time – There is nothing like kicking back and watching a classic movie that will guarantee feel–good moments. Bonus – no compromise! You don’t have to pretend to like the Jason Bourne trilogy – you can watch whatever you want!
