CARP sends message to Health Care Commission

Don’t dismantle the entire health care system just because some of its parts aren’t working. This appeal underlines the basic message found in CARP’s presentation to the federal Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada. The May 2002 presentation was a follow-up to the commission’s interim report, which was released in February of this year. CARP again called on the commission to “maintain our unique, made-in-Canada public health system” and that governments should “reaffirm their commitment to the principles of the Canada Health Act.” The association also pointed out the glaring omission of informal caregivers in the commission’s interim report, noting they are the “backbone of the home care.” The commission’s final report is due out in November 2002.
