Senior fights for her win

Sixty-four year-old Phoenix grandmother Herminia Rodgriguez was recently disqualified from her prize at one of Arizona’s largest casinos. Officials at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino refused to pay her $330,000 prize, saying the slot machine malfunctioned. Ms. Rodriguez has scheduled a hearing with the tribal authorities (the casino is owned by an Indian tribe) later in January.

Arizona government officials have refused to help her, saying that the tribes “have complete authority in a patron dispute.”

But her lawyer says she was allowed to continue playing the machine after it first malfunctioned and was later reset by a casino employee. Ms. Rodriguez hit the “jackpot” after the machine was reset. The moral?
