Doris McCarthy, RIP

The McCarthy family has just announced with deep regret that renowned Canadian artist Doris McCarthy has died at the age of 100.

“Doris died peacefully at home, the home she lovingly called Fool’s Paradise which she bought and built in 1939, where she chose to spend her last days surrounded by nature, art, friends and family. We will dearly miss her spirit, but rejoice that she lived such a long and rich life. She will be missed by her family, friends and colleagues, all of whom loved her very much,” said Doris’s niece, Beth McCarthy.

Doris McCarthy donated her home in the Scarborough Bluffs neighbourhood to the Ontario Heritage Trust to be used as an artist studio/sanctuary after her death and an endowment for its upkeep has been established.

McCarthy was a part of the Top 45 Over 45 list in the October issue of Zoomer, click here to read her feature.
