Sam the Record Man Dies at 92

Canadian music fans are grieving the loss of one of Canada’s most powerful men in music. Sam Sniderman of  Sam the Record Man fame died this weekend at the age of 92.  In 1959, a time before iPods, iTunes and digital music, Sniderman opened his iconic Yonge street music store, which led to a chain of 140 music stores – making it the country’s largest music retailer and shaping the music industry. Anyone who visited Yonge Street just north of Dundas in Toronto couldn’t miss his red flashing neon sign, which became onr of Toronto’s  prominent landmarks.
