On Trend: Black and White

If there is one trend dominating store racks this season, it is the graphic black and white trend.

The Op Art-inspired looks first came down Marc Jacobs’ spring runway with black and white jailbird stripes and dizzying swirls. The designer was obviously have a love-in moment with the mod era because his collection for Louis Vuitton, also, was an eye-popper with checkerboard patterns in black and white.

This summer, the bold duo combo is vying to cover you from head to toe – from sunhats to pointy toe flats.

But this high-contrast look is pleasing to the eye when the starkness is tempered. It’s best to pick one graphic piece and pair it with solid white or black piece.

And keep in mind – while these Op Art patterns might seem retro and mod, black and white is a classic.
