EZ Beauty: Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Red Carpet Ponytail

Julia Louis-Dreyfus 2014 Golden Globes

If you have shoulder length or longer hair and are looking for an evening style, why not emulate Julia Louis-Dreyfus at the 2014 Golden Globes? A ponytail does not automatically equate to a look for the gym or harried mornings when you don’t have time to actually groom. As the 53-year-old funny lady proved, pulling your hair off your face lends a fun, spirited vibe to your look.

The hairstyle is quite forgiving and more relaxed than the super sleek looks we often see on the runway. It features a full, textured ponytail and a bit of volume at the crown.

Celebrity stylist, David Gardner used a number of Wella Professionals products to achieve the star’s look. Click through to read his step-by-step instructions.

1. Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair. Carefully squeeze and lightly towel dry with minimal rubbing or pulling then comb through with a wide tooth comb to allow the natural wave and texture come back.

2. Apply a generous amount of Wella Professionals Extra Volume Mousse evenly starting in the nape and working forward, then with the wide tooth comb from before, gently comb through ensuring an even distribution roots to tips.

3. Gently dry hair on a low heat using a diffuser, encouraging the natural waves especially around the face, and lifting the roots on the crown until the hair is almost dry—a little ‘cold’ to the touch.

4. Apply a few drops of Wella Professionals Oil Reflections at this stage with fingertips all over. It really sends the shine factor into over drive. Continue diffusing the hair until dry.

5. Loosely pull the hair back while looking into the mirror for symmetry. Hold hair in a high pony tail and using a covered band (ALWAYS) to prevent breakage, secure into a nice tight pony tail, from the side it should bounce nicely off the crown of your head.

6. Once that is done use a tail comb to lightly lift the root area where needed. I like to lift the sides out a little and lift on the top; the pony tail will keep whatever you do in place. Play with the pony tail itself with your fingers, loosening the shiny gorgeous curls to the desired fullness and effect.

7. Finish and always set the style. I always use Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray to lightly spray the entire style.
