Oscars 2015: White Gowns Flood The Red Carpet
Julianne Moore in Chanel Haute Couture
The red carpet at last night’s Academy Awards resembled a march down the matrimonial aisle. Many of the stars chose to wear white gowns, immediately igniting it as the No. 1 trend of the evening. Pale champagne colours was a close runner-up.
While white traditionally is not a popular choice for evening – the fear of nasty food and wine stains is probably one reason it’s to be avoided – but as red carpet attire, it looked fresh and modern.
But the key to making white for night looking just right is to keep it streamlined in silhouette – like Reese Witherspoon’s column gown. Embellishment should glitter for some glamour like Julianne Moore’s heavily embellished Chanel gown. Also bands of strategic contrasting colour can add interest – and take it away from veering too closely to bridal wear – like Nicole Kidman’s red belt.
We round up some of the best that looked right in white at the Academy Awards
