The Zoomer Report: Bank fees

If you’re having a significant birthday, you could be eligible for big
discounts from your bank.

They may be called Seniors’ discounts, but they kick in long before you
hit that milestone. For instance, when you hit the age of 60, most of the big
banks will give you a standard banking plan for free as well as free drafts,
traveler’s cheques and other benefits. Some smaller institutions, like
Citizen’s Bank and Vancity Credit Union offer these deals when you turn
55.

But you don’t get this automatically – you have to ask for it –
so make sure you do that. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada has an online
table comparing all these offerings
.
