Q&A: Working and CPP

Question: Can you collect Canada Pension (CPP) and OAS but continue to work? I want to be debt free by the time I retire. I plan to continue working for four years more. I applied for my CPP and have been approved. But I am just curious if I have to stop working to collect these funds. Thank you. I am 65 years of age. – Georgia B.

Gordon Pape answers: Yes. You can stay on the job and collect full OAS and CPP benefits as well. Starting in 2012, CPP recipients between the ages of 60 and 64 will be required to continue paying in to the plan but after that additional contributions are optional.
