Q&A: TFSA investments
Question: Are all securities listed on the TSX or Venture exchange eligible in a TFSA account? Are there any securities within those exchanges that are deemed unacceptable? If so is there a CRA technical bulletin that would clearly explain the situation? – George H.
Gordon Pape answers: All securities except put options which are traded on a CRA approved stock exchange are eligible for TFSAs, RRSPs, RESPs, etc. However, you will need a self-directed plan with a brokerage firm. You can read the appropriate Interpretation Bulletin. Since the last update was in 2002, it does not specifically refer to TFSAs but the same rules apply.
