The Zoomer Report: Retirement Satisfaction

Are you happy with the amount of money you’ve saved for retirement? New figures show Ontarians are far more satisfied with how much they’ve socked away than Americans. But at the same time, they haven’t figured out exactly how much retirement income they’ll have, or how much they’ll need.

This is from a survey for Sun Life Financial. It found more than 70 per cent of people are comfortable with their nest eggs, compared to only 60 per cent who feel that way south of the border. Here at home, three-quarters of us are confident they’ll have enough money to enjoy the lifestyle they want. That means pursuing hobbies and personal interests when they no longer work full-time. Most of us also expect to be able to take care of medical expenses.

What would you do if you realized you didn’t have enough for a comfortable retirement? According to this survey and other, most people would choose to work longer rather than spending less.
