Calendar Shows Sexy Side of Aging

By Charlotte Bumstead

The seniors living in The Claremont Retirement Residence in Toronto have not been spending their winter evenings playing bingo or knitting Christmas stockings. These 85- to 95-year-old residents found a new form of entertainment—something to show off their sexy and scandalous sides. They’ve been caught in the act after the lights go out in pursuits like skinny dipping, pole dancing and steaming up the backseat of a Cadillac—all of which was captured on film. The photos are displayed in the 2011 After Dark calendar—an agenda portraying Zoomerlicious candidates who have “still got it.”

Other fun photos show two laughing elderly women in a pillow fight, a silver fox playing a tuba while overlooking the city night landscape, and a white-haired woman in pyjamas rocking out to tunes on her iPod. The thematic role of the calendar is in defying the stereotypes of aging and expressing the joy still very much apparent in these late-life endeavours. Ted Jenken is the name of the 88-year-old who is shown posing in the backseat scene. “This is just a picture of an old man trying to get away with something,” said Jenken. “It just shows that old people are here to have some fun, to enjoy life and to make the most of each and every day.”

The calendar sales raise money for Free the Children, a program that empowers North Americans to “be the change” for communities in the developing world. Previous calendars have already raised enough funds to build two schools in Africa. Purchase your copy of After Dark online at: www.reveraliving.com.
